Join Howard volunteer Fire Department and make a difference in your community! We need you. Your community needs you.

WE NEED YOU and your support. Help with fund-raisers, building and equipment maintenance, community programs (fire prevention, awareness programs, etc.) and administration. We are always seeking those willing and able to become firefighters, but there's just as much need for people willing to support behind the scenes. It takes three to four people behind each firefighter to keep records, raise funds, etc.

THE PAY IS AWFUL. THE REWARDS ARE GREAT!
We're sometimes asked, "What's so special about firefighters and the fire department?" The simple answer: It's a family organization, it's an organizational family, dedicated to serving the community, often without recognition or reward. If you call, they come. Whatever the time, whatever the need, they will come. Come be a part of it and understand.

WHO IS THE HOWARD VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT?
Your neighbors, your friends, maybe somebody in your family. It's an all-volunteer group willing to devote time each month or just when the need arises, anytime, day or night. It's people who are willing to be on-call to help in case of emergency or just in case. It's people of all ages acting as dispatchers, janitors, clerks, mechanics, administrators, cooks, waitresses, dishwashers, etc., as well as firefighters. It's people willing to support their community, to make a difference, maybe even to save a life or some stranger's property.

So once again, we ask for your tax-exempt contribution of a minimum of $100.00 per family (more if you can - less if you cannot). Every dollar contributed adds to your neighborhood fire protection; we pay no salaries or stipends of any sort, and receive no tax revenue.

Please join your friends and neighbors at our two major annual fund raising community events; the always delicious Pancake Breakfast Monday, May 28, 2012 from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and the 29th Annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday and Sunday, June 2nd and 3rd, 2012. (Please plan on attending both days, enjoy the booths and vendors and challenge your palette with wonderful red and/or green chili.)

Please remember our community Christmas Party the first Saturday in December. This year it will be on December 1, 2012. 

All events are held at HVFD Station #1 in Howard. We hope to see you there.
