Flight for Life Training Crew

Flight for Life Colorado

On July 20, 2005 the Howard Volunteer Fire Department and the Arkansas Valley Ambulance had joint training from the Flight for Life Colorado. We learned from them what is needed to make the HVFD and Community Center the Emergency Command Center for the area. Future plans are under way to build a helicopter landing pad next to our buildiing. Training lasted for approximately 2 1/2 hours with 35 people attending. Trainers gave parameters of response to our emergency situations, and how to package a patient for transport in their flight for life units. Flight for Life has expanded and now have four more helicopters serving the state. The trainers came from Pueblo and when the instruction was finished went on to Salida & Cripple Creek for night training.

HVFD Training

Clay Steward, Lieutenant with the Arvada Fire Department held a training session for our volunteer firemen
at the HVFD Fire House & Community Center on July 20, 2010.

Training - March 14, 2004

Raymond Maxwell arranged for two of his friends(Charles Scott and Don Snyder) from Oklahoma to come to Howard to help the HVFD with training. One of them is a retired fire chief from the Fort Sill Fire Department with 28 years in the department. Training included instruction on what equipment should be on each truck, and how to operate everything that is on the trucks. This gave members attending the training opportunity to learn more about each truck.

The training went well and everyone there was very interested in what was being said. Members learned what equipment needed to be on the truck that was chosen to equip. The trainers showed how to put hoses on the truck in order to get them off properly in a fire situation.

The trainers also talked about fire extinguishers and how to use them. Even though many are familiar with fire extinguishers, new things were learned during the presentation.

All in all, it was time well spent. We are hoping the trainers will return in the future to see how we are doing!
